Bar feeders, Unirobot systems, and workpiece unloading
Automatic lathe accessories with more than 40 years of experience
Since 1980, FMB has been supporting its partners in the field of automation solutions, with a specific focus on bar feeders, workpiece unloading, and robotic cell systems for turning applications. FMB is particularly proud to also develop customized, application-specific solutions for its partners. Its bar feeder portfolio covers standard systems for bar diameters from 0.8 mm to 100 mm. The systems are suitable for feeding materials such as steel, aluminium, copper, as well as thermoplastic and thermoset plastics, in both round and polygonal profiles. With the Unirobot system, robotic loading and unloading can be implemented, while the VARIO-e system is designed for the unloading of finished and semi-finished workpieces via the sub-spindle of Swiss-type long turning machines. A bar feeder automatically feeds bar stock of various shapes to conventional or CNC lathes. In terms of machine configuration, single-spindle and multi-spindle lathes can be distinguished. FMB primarily offers a wide range of standard solutions in various designs for automated production with single-spindle lathes. In addition to specialized solutions for multi-spindle lathes, FMB also applies its proven concepts and many years of experience to develop customer-specific solutions for bar feeding across a wide range of applications.
Channels equipped with a hydrodynamic bar guiding system have long been part of the FMB product range. They are used in all cases where the bar stock to be fed is longer than the lathe spindle length. In such applications, in addition to the stepwise feeding of bar stock, the loading magazine must also guide the rotating bars outside the machine. Optimal bar guidance is achieved through FMB’s developed and patented technology, the so-called turbo principle. The channel is filled with oil under a slight pressure of 1–2 bar. This results in low-vibration bar guidance even at high speeds, while also centering the bars within the channel. This technology is generally suitable for bars with round, hexagonal, or square external contours, in both hollow and solid cross-sections.
In recent years, FMB has further refined this principle and today offers loading magazines in various lengths for bar diameters from 0.8 to 100 mm. The machinable bar materials include steel, aluminium, brass, as well as thermoplastic and thermosetting plastics.
This technology is recommended for single-spindle lathes, whether fixed-head or sliding-head (Swiss-type) lathes.
